EcoFlow PowerOcean Plus: Built for Robustness, Expanding Farm Self-sufficiency in Norway

In Nore og Uvdal Municipality, Norway, Stein Rudi runs a working farm shaped by the realities of rural life - long winters, heavy snow, and a constant reliance on electricity to keep daily operations running. From water systems to refrigeration, energy is essential to maintaining both productivity and stability. For Stein, building a more self-sufficient farm wasn’t just an ambition - it was a necessity.

Challenges

Like many in the region, Stein had already invested in solar panels. But with a traditional on-grid setup, much of the energy produced during the day was either used immediately or sent back to the grid. “It doesn’t help much to have electricity during the day,” he explains. “It’s in the morning and evening—when the sun isn’t out—that I need it most.”

At the same time, Norway’s snow-heavy winters made rooftop solar less effective, leading Stein to install ground-mounted panels that could be adjusted to capture sunlight year-round. Even then, without storage, the system couldn’t fully support his needs.

EcoFlow x Elektroimportoren Brings the Solutions to Reality

To bridge that gap, Stein expanded his setup with the EcoFlow PowerOcean Plus system, transforming his solar installation into a fully integrated energy solution. By connecting his existing solar panels into the system as a retrofit, the farm can now capture, store, and reuse its own energy instead of sending it back to the grid.

The installation includes a 29.9kW hybrid inverter and a 40kWh battery system, enabling full backup capability across the farm’s operations.

Stepping into the Era of Self-sufficient Energy Management

Now, energy produced during the day is stored and used when it’s needed most—early mornings, evenings, or during outages. The system ensures that critical functions like water supply and refrigeration continue uninterrupted, even if the grid goes down. “If the power is out, the farm can still function,” Stein says.

For Stein, the value goes beyond reliability. It’s about making full use of what he produces—reducing waste, lowering dependence on the grid, and moving closer to true energy independence. With a system that’s both scalable and easy to expand, the farm is now equipped not just for today’s needs, but for the future as well.

This project highlights how energy storage can unlock the full potential of solar—especially in rural environments where conditions are unpredictable and reliability is critical. By turning generation into usable, on-demand power, farms like Stein’s can operate with greater confidence, control, and resilience.
